If boat shoes aren’t your vibe, allow Charli XCX and “It” models Bella Hadid and Amelia Gray Hamlin to introduce another footwear trend that’ll be everywhere this summer: the sneaker-meets-ballet-flat.

Louis Vuitton unveiled its Sneakerina last month at a starry launch party at San Vicente Bungalows, where the $975 foldable leather flats were celebrated by guests including Phoebe Dynevor, the musician sisters Haim (Alana, Danielle and Este) and THR power stylists Jamie Mizrahi, Elizabeth Stewart and Jeanne Yang. For those who aren’t ready to splurge nearly $1,000 on the luxury French fashion house’s low-profile silhouette, comfy shoe brand Vivaia offers a similar star-loved — and easily washable – option in the Cristina and Yanka shoes.

Vivaia’s sneakerina is a lace-up satin style that comes in a round- or square-toed design. At just $119 to $129, the chic kicks are nearly 90 percent cheaper than its leather designer competitor. The “Sympathy Is a Knife” singer wore the Peach Blush pair to weekend one of Coachella with a Lou Reed tee and silk skirt, then again while walking out and about NYC on May 1. Hadid and Hamlin have also been spotted wearing the ballerina-esque shoes in white, black and pink.

The brand says it offers a “barefoot-inspired feel and [is] crafted from recycled materials which feature a triple-layer sole for superior comfort and a foldable design for travel.” The round-toe Yanka sneakers come in white, light blue, black and light pink, while the square-toe Cristina shoes come in the same colors, plus an of-the-moment butter yellow. Both are made of recycled satin fabric and boast a suede-like sole, an elastic heel to avoid chafing and a rubber outsole, and come with two sets of shoelaces (one flat ribbon, one round satin).

Founded in 2020, Vivaia is known for its affordable and comfortable footwear made from eco-conscious materials such as recycled plastic water bottles, sugarcane-based foam, rice husks, natural rubber and more. Katie Holmes has worn the brand’s $139 Flat Pro (which offers a look similar to the Row’s ballet flats) while out and about in New York, Oprah Winfrey has donned the square-toed Regina Pro boots, Selena Gomez paired her nearly-$5,000 Valentino gown with Vivaia’s (now-sold-out) $119 Melody slingback heels and Julia Roberts has stepped out in the knee-high Tara Pro water-repellent boots and the perforated Melissa ankle boots.
