Fans may be ready to return to Cousins beach for a third and final time when The Summer I Turned Pretty returns on Wednesday, but Prime Video is giving a warning ahead of time.
The official social media account for the Prime Video series on Monday cautioned viewers against bullying and hate speech ahead of season three premiere which will offer the last chapter in TSITP universe and a conclusion to the series’ ongoing love triangle.
“Cousins is our safe place,” the post read. “Everything good, everything magical. Let’s keep the conversation kind this summer.”
“We have a ZERO tolerance policy for bullying and hate speech. If you engage in any of the following you will be banned,” the post added before listing “community guidelines” including no “hate speech or bullying,” “targeting our cast or crew” and “harassing or doxxing members of the community.”
Based on the best-selling book trilogy from Jenny Han, the third season takes place four years after Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) chose to be with Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno), leaving brother Conrad (Christopher Briney) heartbroken. For the final season, Belly will once again find herself questioning where her heart lies between Conrad and Jeremiah. Ahead of the third season, devoted fans have continued to voice their sides in the love triangle with many questioning how Han will end the series, whether it will stray or abide by the book’s storyline and which brother Belly will end up with.
Following Prime Video’s post, a multitude of fans took to the comments thanking the streamer for the message but noted bullying has long been prevalent since the series’ debut, in particular with the negative online fan discourse last season amid the introduction of Elsie Fisher’s nonbinary character Skye — the character was not a part of the books. At the time Han addressed the bullying and posted on her Instagram stories: “The Summer I Turned Pretty community is one of inclusivity. The hurtful comments directed at cast are not in the spirit of the show. Please be mindful of what you’re putting out there and of who is seeing it.”
Season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty, which will feature 11 episodes, is led by showrunners Han and Sarah Kucserka. Han, Kucserka and Karen Rosenfelt serve as executive producers, along with Paul Lee, Hope Hartman and Mads Hansen for wiip. The series is a co-production of Amazon Studios and wiip.
