A new group of strangers are ready to heal.
Hulu released the official trailer for season two of the Nicole Kidman fronted series Nine Perfect Strangers. Kidman reprises her role as mysterious guru Masha Dmitrichenko as she welcomes guests to a transformational wellness retreat in the Austrian Alps. However, as she attempts to heal everyone, they’re taken to the brink, begging the question: Will they and she survive it all?
The second season also stars Henry Golding, Lena Olin, Annie Murphy, Christine Baranski, Lucas Englander, King Princess, Murray Bartlett, Dolly de Leon, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Mark Strong and Aras Aydin.
The Hulu series finds a home in a snowy location for the second round, a departure from the Tranquillum House in California Masha once resided in. Just as in the first season, the nine strangers joining Masha undergo psychedelic therapy to heal their respective traumas but not without some initial hesitations.
In the trailer Kidman’s Masha greets her guests telling them, “I invited you all here because sometimes you shouldn’t deal with pain gently.” When one guest (portrayed by King Princess) asks confused, ”Wait, this is not a spa?” Baranski’s character jokes, “She’s going to bleach our brains, darling.”
“This is a cleansing of the mind,” Masha notes. “To recharge, to rediscover inspiration.” The guests are shown, once again, taking a hallucinogenic drug and Masha directs them to return to “a core memory” for the healing practice.
“Sometimes, the lies you let people believe are just as important as the truth,” Kidman’s Masha is also overheard saying.
However, elsewhere in the trailer Masha is shown to also be struggling with dealing with her own trauma. “You came to me a broken woman,” Masha is told in the trailer. “And you break everyone you try to heal.”
The show hails from David E. Kelley, Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories, Kidman’s Blossom Films and Fifth Season, which is also handling distribution of the series.
Kelley, Kidman, Per Saari, Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, Molly Allen, Jonathan Levine, Rachel Shukert, Liane Moriarty, Matthew Tinker, Anthony Byrne and JH Butterworth all serve as executive producers.
Season two of Nine Perfect Strangers premieres on Hulu on May 21, with a two-episode launch. New episodes will then stream every Wednesday up to the season finale on July 2.
