The annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner returns tonight, bringing together revered reporters, A-list guests and others to recognize the achievements of journalists in the field.
Broadcast coverage of the red carpet arrivals beginning at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET on CNN, C-SPAN, MSNBC, NBC and other major news networks. This year’s event — often known as “Nerd Prom” — takes place at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C., and will raise funds to support the White House Correspondents Association’s First Amendment scholarships. President Donald Trump will not attend this year’s event, which often “roasts” the commander-in-chief and pokes fun at the government. (The last time he sat down at the dinner was in 2015, the year before his first term.)

Unlike past gatherings, this year will not feature a guest entertainer. (Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost hosted the 2024 dinner.) Comedian Amber Ruffin’s scheduled performance was canceled, with WHCA president Eugene Daniels noting in a letter to organization members, “at this consequential moment for journalism, I want to ensure the focus is not on the politics of division but entirely on awarding our colleagues for their outstanding work and providing scholarship and mentorship to the next generation of journalists.”
The WHCA is at odds with the White House over a few issues, including a decision to bar the Associated Press from certain news events and a move to take direct control over the White House press pool.
